Sup Lunch. Nov, 2011

Noon surf session …way out there. Early in the front evolution the waves pitched at IB Magee  Beach park.

Water clarity: high. Winds speeds: light. Tides:  low- one could nearly stand up in the water at the pier! Bay side of island at Wilson’s cut is always great for fishing the holes and cruising the flats. Here are a few pix from the last couple of days.

Hail, hail the nalu

Hail hail the blue,

Hail, hail the nalu

and the water world crew!

It was a long paddle and peddle from the beach to the rigs on the Nalu stand up and kayak, but worth it. We met Loren and John who jetted out on the inflatable zodiac. They were catching snapper and avoiding the bigger, toothier fish. Sometimes the fun is getting there!

What a difference a day makes.

Regatta Por-ta-ta. Oct. 16th, 2011

Sunday morning. The sailboats headed out and the sea turtles and fisherman did their thing at the jetties.

Daring Doberman. Oct 5th, 2011

This morning a grand and daring doberman took off without his leash and showed off his fast twitch muscles.  He reminded me of that 1970’s heist movie called the Daring Dobermans about a group of dobermans that were trained to carry a bank robbery.

This guy is called Ace, is from Canada, and didn’t take off with anyone’s backpack.  He had a splendid time running and chasing.  He responded to his owner instantly who said, “America is great, not like Canada where they have all these rules. You can’t do anything fun there, it’s almost communist.”  His dog was so obedient and beautiful I didn’t  burst his bubble that there’s definitely leash law on Port A beaches.

Blue, green and clear water…could be the Caribbean. One fisherman caught a kingfish, ladyfish, spanish mackrel, bluefish, and a mangrove snapper in the same morning. See the red drum caught below. It was released, rescued from buoy status, decompressed, and finally released again to survive another day!

Another highly successful and very fun paddle race. The 2nd annual Paddle for Parkinsons race benefiting Catch the Cure foundation was held in North Padre on Saturday, Sept 3rd. Lots of kayak teams, a few sleek canoes, and several stand up paddlers kept the race competitive. Congrats to all, especially the Port A contingent with high schoolers, moms,  teachers, and deputy city manager!

Bobby Serna, “Surf Experience Director” and pro surfers  bring surf into the lives of kids battling cystic fibrosis. Local Morgan Faulkner Awesome, who operates Texas surf camp, and all the instructors couldn’t be any better! The pros, mostly from Hawaii, were extremely gracious and enthusiastic.  Knee high peelers but the sunshine and good vibe was felt by all. Thanks again for coming to Port Aransas, Texas!

L to  R: Morgan Faulkner, Kalani Robb, Teddy Navarro, Shawn “Barney” Barron, Brian Ortega and kneeling, Bobby Serna, Gavin Beschen, and Kealii Mamala are flanked by energized young surfers.

Come on Arlene, oh I swear what we mean,
