Evening Glow. Nov 29th, 2016

The party out last night really likes to surf. They fought the current and unpredictable wave breaks. Though the sunset was less than hoped for, the last light cast a beautiful glow on the water.

Dream Come True. Oct 29th, 2016

dsc_0557The swell peaked perfectly over the weekend. I captured just a few of many waves and surfers on this Saturday afternoon.

The waves picked up early Friday and the Port Aransas locals were the first to get a taste.   A low off the Yucatan produced the swell was to lasted for 3 days. (more pix in the mix!)

The surf was beautiful but mellow on Wednesday and Thursday. Thanks to Trevor, Rowdy and the gals for posing for a few shots.

Here’s a “Hoot Out” to GRACED by GRIT, a multi-sport clothing line out of Solana Beach, California.  My friend, Sherri Scott, designs for the company, and we stocked up on a few essentials on our last trip there. The tops and bottoms are fabulous and holding up in the Port A surf!

Pictured below are a few items we really liked:

“Show’em Whatcha Got Tank” top, “Land and Sea Logo Booty Shorts”, “Head to the Sea Hoodie” (rashguard), and “Sports Skirt.”

Thanks Laura, Kandice, and Katherine for the action-model shots!

This clothing line now operates only as a foundation but supports young women in higher education.

Where there’s a SUP,  there’s a way!

After gearing up the Xterra inflatable boards we paddled to the tip of the south jetty. Most folks will agree; you make it up as you go when you fish on a SUP craft.  These lightweight inflatables really get taken for a ride by big fish which adds to the adventure.

The dolphins were frisky and baby blacktip sharks were cruising near the surface. The sharks were biting every cast.  Good thing we didn’t land any hooks or teeth on “deck” .  Short video follows.

I spotted the Port Aransas Lifeguards on their daily training paddle this  morning.  Thanks for the photo op!  Garrett tested out the new  Xterra 12.6 Inflatable Touring board. The water was deliciously clear,  but the clouds and sky had most of my attention.Screenshot 2021-07-15 at 18-16-35 clouds-sup-port-aransas jpg (JPEG Image, 4350 × 3259 pixels) — Scaled (21%)Screenshot 2021-07-15 at 18-25-30 port-aransas-surf jpg (JPEG Image, 4385 × 2687 pixels) — Scaled (26%)

Go LD,  making fun outta nuttin’ !

I love September.

Today’s water was clear and calm enough to see wildlife.  Des landed a Spanish mackerel and another kayaker hooked skipjack (aka “the poor man’s tarpon”) and reported seeing a 10 foot manta ray! I’m pretty sure it was a group of ling that appeared not far from me. Whatever they were, they were big. Enjoy the water everyone!

dsc_0278Just before the “whomp” at G street last Wednesday, there was a small swell at the pier. The morning sunlight beautifully enhanced the water color like it always does: deep marine green on the front side and light, seafoam green when backlit. Gorgeous! Surfers weren’t  bad either.

The Port Aransas Surf and Soul Cinema Series was a success!  Marinedreams collaborated with the City of Port Aransas, the Community Theater, and Sirena’s Water Wear.  The 2-night surf/skate film festival was held in May 2016.

The series included several short films, a locals segment, and two Texas premieres of documentary films:  “Ocean Driven,” the Chris Bertish story and “The Wave I Ride,”  the Paige Alms story.

Do Yer Thang! Feb 2, 2016

DSC_0423Gusty off shore, sunny and lined up. It was a day to do your surf “thang.” However you did it, it was great!
