Family and fellow surfers gathered at the pier for a memorial and burial at sea.  We all said goodbye to John “Jocko” Taylor with tears and whoops and water slaps and splashes of salt spray.  Afterwards we paddled out to catch some waves for Jocko.

I had met him a few months earlier when we were both SUP’ing at the pier. (see photo below…I usually take a camera with me).  He paddled over on his board and struck up a conversation with ease. Jocko had a boyish charm and was comfortable hanging out and chatting on the water, like a neighbor on his front porch.
